On October 17th, the ICTS Academy welcomed Mr Pol Derie, Commercial Director at Dhollandia, and his son Max Derie, who just started at Dhollandia, to the workshop in Ghent, Belgium, for a second training session on tail lift systems. A group of 27 mechanics and three members of the management team attended the Saturday morning training session.
Dhollandia is the number one manufacturer of hydraulic tail lifts, with more than 50 years of experience and a wide range of lifting solutions for trucks, trailers and other commercial vehicles.
Following the first training in April 2025, this second session took a more technical approach. The mechanics explored the construction and working principles of tail lifts, with particular attention to correct installation, weight distribution, and the technical requirements for fitting, removing, and repairing these systems.
From Mechanics to Technicians
During the second part of the training, the group moved into the workshop for a closer look at double-deck trailers and their tail lift systems. Understanding the mechanic behind these systems is particularly important, as ICTS regularly carries out repairs on double-deck trailers in its workshops. Mr Derie explained the different components and technical points to consider when working on such hydraulic systems, helping mechanics apply this knowledge to the equipment they encounter in their daily work.
